Entertainment News Turns Deadly in Phoenix, AZ

Fri Jul 27, 2007 at 06:34:25 PM PDT

Entertainment news became deadly in Phoenix today, when two news helicopters, covering a police chase, collided mid-air and killed all four people aboard.  Five news helicopters and one police chopper had all been cleared to enter the same airspace.  The big story that resulted in death, the story these copters were chasing was a stolen vehicle that rammed a police car.

While I feel sadness for those who died today, I can’t help but think how far stations will go to get sensational footage of crime, when the most sensational crimes being perpetrated are right under their noses, and these crimes don’t require helicopters for research or reporting.  The perpetrators,  Bush and Company, have committed high crimes and misdemeanors, stolen our civil liberties, started a war for oil, destroyed our military, screwed up a volatile region, killed thousands of Americans and many more Iraqis, etc., etc., etc. (not to mention New Orleans).

What a different America we would have if news was centered on what matters.  But all entertainment news can give us is sensationalism.

My condolences to the families; Those who died just worked there.
